Thus I have heard:

One time, the Budha was staying at Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavastii.

At that time, Bhagavaan addressed the Bhikshus:

“Someone in this assembly may think: ‘I would rather die than speak falsely before the community.’  Yet later, I perceive this same person developing clinging attachment to possessions, ultimately speaking falsely in the assembly.

Why does this happen, O Bhikshus?

Attachment to material possessions is extremely difficult to relinquish. It causes beings to fall into the three woeful realms and prevents attainment of Nirvana!

Therefore, O Bhikshus!

If such clinging attachment has arisen, cut it off immediately. If not yet arisen, prevent its arising.

Thus, O Bhikshus, should you train yourselves.”

When the bhikshus heard what the Budha said, they followed it with joy.
