Thus have I heard:
One time, the Budha was staying at Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavastii.
At that time, Bhagavaan said to the Bhikshus, “By eliminating one thing, I assure you will attain the fruit of spiritual powers and the exhaustion of all defilements.
What is that one thing?
It is the attachment to the taste of desires.
Therefore, Bhikshus, eliminate this attachment to the taste of desires, and I assure you will attain the fruit of spiritual powers and the exhaustion of all defilements.”
At that time, Bhagavaan spoke this verse:
“Beings attached to these tastes
Fall into wretched realms after death.
Now, by abandoning these desires,
They will become Arahants.”
“Therefore, Bhikshus, you should always abandon thoughts of attachment to tastes. Thus, Bhikshus, you should train yourselves in this way.”
When the bhikshus heard what the Budha said, they followed it with joy.
