1. 聞如是：一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。
Thus have I heard:
One time, the Budha was staying at Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavastii.
2. 爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「教二人作善不可得報恩。云何為二？所謂父母也。若復，比丘！有人以父著左肩上，以母著右肩上，至千萬歲，衣被、飯食、床蓐臥具、病瘦醫藥，即於肩上放於屎溺，猶不能得報恩。比丘當知，父母恩重，抱之、育之，隨時將護，不失時節，得見日月。以此方便，知此恩難報。是故，諸比丘！當供養父母，常當孝順，不失時節。如是，諸比丘！當作是學。」
At that time, Budha said to the bhikshus, “There are two people whose kindness can never be fully repaid, no matter how much good one does for them. Who are these two?
They are one’s parents. Suppose, bhikshus, someone were to carry their father on their left shoulder and their mother on their right shoulder for a million years, providing them with clothing, food, bedding, and medicine, and even allowing them to relieve themselves on their shoulders—still, they could not repay their parents’ kindness.
Bhikshus, you should know that the kindness of parents is profound. They nurture, raise, and protect you at all times, ensuring you grow and see the light of day. Through this example, understand how difficult it is to repay their kindness. Therefore, bhikshus, you should always serve and honour your parents, being filial and attentive without fail. Thus, bhikshus, you should train yourselves.”
3. 爾時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
When the bhikshus heard what the Budha said, they followed it with joy.
