（七） 燭
The Candle
1. 聞如是： 一時，佛在舍衛國、祇樹、給孤獨園。
Thus I have heard: One time, the Budha was staying at
Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavastii.
2. 爾時，世尊告諸比丘： 「我今當說燭明之法，亦當說由燭趣道之業。 諦聽！諦聽，善思念之。
At that time, the Bhagavaan spoke to the bhikshus:
“I shall now expound the Dharma of the luminous lamp and also the practice that leads to the path through the lamp.
Listen carefully! Listen carefully and reflect upon it well.”
3. 諸比丘對曰： 「如是，世尊！
The bhikshus replied, “Yes, Bhagavaan!”
4. 爾時，世尊告諸比丘： 「彼云何名燭明者？ 所謂貪婬、瞋恚、愚癡盡。 彼云何名為由燭趣道之業？ 所謂正見、正治、正語、正業、正命、正方便、正念、正三昧。 是謂由燭趣道之業。 我由此已說燭明，亦說由燭趣道之業，如來所應為者。 今已周訖。 善念、諷誦，勿有懈怠。 今不行者，後悔無及。
At that time, the Bhagavaan spoke to the bhikshus:
“What is called the luminous lamp?
It is the complete eradication of greed, hatred, and delusion.
And what is the practice that leads to the path through the lamp?
It is the Noble Eightfold Path:
Right view,
Right intention,
Right speech,
Right action,
Right livelihood,
Right effort,
Right mindfulness,
and right concentration.
This is called the practice that leads to the path through the lamp.
I have now expounded the luminous lamp and the practice that leads to the path through it—this is what the Tathaagata should teach.
Now the discourse is complete.
Diligently reflect upon and recite it, do not be negligent.
For those who do not practice now, regret will be of no use later.”
5. 爾時，諸比丘聞佛所說歡喜，奉行。
When the bhikshus heard what the Buddha said, they followed it with joy.
