EA 9.4 The Mind (2) / English

Thus have I heard:

One time, the Budha was staying at Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavastii.

The Bhagavaan addressed the Bhikshus: “Bhikshus, I know of no other thing that changes so quickly as the mind. It is beyond comparison, like a monkey wandering through the forest grabbing one branch, letting it go and seizing another.

Similarly, the mind arises and ceases moment to moment with different thoughts. Therefore, monks, ordinary people cannot truly discern the workings of their own minds. Thus, monks, you should constantly train to subdue your minds and direct them toward the wholesome path. This is how you should train.”

When the bhikshus heard what the Budha said, they followed it with joy.
