- 聞如是：
一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。
Thus have I heard:
One time, the Budha was staying at Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavastii.
2. 爾時，世尊告諸比丘：
「若有比丘修行一法，便不能壞敗惡趣，一為趣善，一為趣泥洹。
云何修行一法，不能壞敗惡趣？
所謂心無篤信，是謂修此一法不壞敗惡趣。
云何修行一法趣善處者？
所謂心行篤信，是謂修此一法得趣善處。
云何修行一法得至泥洹？
所謂恒專心念，是謂修行此法得至泥洹。
是故謂，諸比丘！
專精心意，念諸善本。
如是，諸比丘！
當作是學。」
At that time, Bhagavaan addressed the Bhikshus: “If a Bhikshu cultivates one practice, he cannot avoid the evil destinies; another leads to good rebirth, and another to Nirvana.
What is the one practice that cannot avoid evil destinies?
It is lack of sincere faith – this is the practice that fails to avoid evil destinies.
What is the one practice leading to good rebirth?
It is cultivating sincere faith – this is the practice leading to good rebirth.
What is the one practice leading to Nirvana?
It is constant single-minded recollection – this is the practice leading to Nirvana.
Therefore, O Bhikshus! Focus your minds and recollect wholesome roots. Thus, Bhikshus, should you train.”
3. 爾時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
When the bhikshus heard what the Budha said, they followed it with joy.
