1. 聞如是：
一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。
Thus I have heard:
One time, the Budha was staying at Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavastii.
2. 爾時，世尊告諸比丘：
「受人利養甚為不易，令人不得至無為之處。
所以然者，若彼師利羅比丘不貪利養者，不作爾許無量殺生，身壞命終，生地獄中。」
Then the Bhagavaan addressed the bhikshus:
“Receiving material gains is extremely difficult [to handle properly], preventing one from reaching the unconditioned (asamskrta) state.
The reason is, had that bhikshu Shrona not been greedy for material gains, he would not have committed such immeasurable killing, and upon the breakup of the body, after death, he would not have been reborn in hell.”
3. 爾時，世尊便說此偈：
「受人利養重， 壞人清白行；
是故當制心， 莫貪著於味。
師利以得定， 乃至天帝宮；
便於神通退， 墮於屠殺中。
Then the Bhagavaan spoke these verses:
“Heavy are material gains received,
Destroying one’s pure conduct;
Therefore guard your mind—,
Not craving after pleasant tastes.
Though Shrona attained samadhi,
Even reached the heaven of the Thirty-three;
But then fell from his psychic powers,
And sank into slaughter’s karma.”
4.「諸比丘！當以此方便，知受人利養甚為不易。
如是，比丘當作是學，未生利養心制令不生，已生此心求方便令滅。
如是，諸比丘！當作是學。」
“O bhikshus, by this example, you should understand how difficult it is to receive material gains.
Thus should a bhikshu train himself: prevent the arising of thoughts of material gain not yet arisen, and abandon those already arisen.
Thus, bhikshus, should you train yourselves.”
5. 爾時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
When the bhikshus heard what the Budha said, they followed it with joy.
