- 聞如是：
一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。
Thus I have heard:
One time, the Budha was staying at Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavasti.
2. 爾時，世尊告諸比丘：
「我今非獨在比丘、比丘尼、清信士、清信女中為尊，乃至世間人民中獨尊，今有四法本末，我躬自知之，而作證於四部之眾、天上、人中。
云何為四？一者一切諸行皆悉無常，我今知之，於四部之眾、天上、人中而作證；二者一切諸行苦；三者一切諸行無我；四者涅槃休息。
我今知之，於四部之眾，於天上、人中而作證。
是謂，比丘！四法之本，是故於天上、人中而獨得尊。」
At that time, the Bhagavaan addressed the bhikshus:
“I am revered not only among bhikshus, bhikshunis, upaasakas and upaasikas, but am supreme among all worldly beings as well.
There are four fundamental truths which I have personally realized and proclaimed before the fourfold assembly, devas and humans. What are the four?
First: All conditioned phenomena are impermanent – this I have known and proclaimed.
Second: All conditioned phenomena are unsatisfactory.
Third: All phenomena are not-self.
Fourth: Nirvana is peace – this I have known and proclaimed.
These, bhikshus, are the four fundamental truths, and therefore I am supreme among devas and humans.”
3. 爾時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
When the bhikshus heard what the Budha said, they followed it with joy.
