1. 聞如是：一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。
Thus have I heard:
One time, the Budha was staying at Anaathapindidas Ashrama in Jetavana of Shraavastii.
2. 爾時，世尊告諸比丘：
若有一人出現於世，爾時天及人民皆悉熾盛，三惡眾生便自減少。
猶如國界聖王治化時，彼城中人民熾盛，隣國力弱。
此亦如是。若多薩阿竭出現世時，三惡趣道便自減少。
如是，諸比丘！當信向佛。是故，諸比丘！當作是學。」
Then the Bhagavaan addressed the bhikshus: “When a Perfect One appears in the world, devas and humankind all flourish, while beings in the three woeful realms naturally diminish. Just as when a righteous monarch rules a kingdom, the people in his domain prosper while neighboring states decline. So too, when a Tathaagata appears in the world, the three lower realms naturally diminish. Therefore, bhikshus, take refuge in the Bhagavaan. Thus, bhikshus, should you train yourselves.”
3. 爾時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
When the bhikshus heard what the Budha said, they followed it with joy.
